10 Commandments of Recovery

COMMANDMENT #1:
THOU SHALT TAKE YOUR MEDICATIONS RELIGIOUSLY AND AS DIRECTED.

COMMANDMENT #2:
THOU SHALT DEVELOP A GOOD SUPPORT SYSTEM.

COMMANDMENT #3:
THOU SHALT MAKE AND KEEP ALL APPOINTMENTS, AND SHOW UP ON TIME.

COMMANDMENT #4:
THOU SHALT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN MENTAL HEALTH IN EVERY WAY YOU CAN.

COMMANDMENT #5:
THOU SHALT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN PHYSICAL HEALTH IN EVERY WAY YOU CAN (INCLUDING GROOMING).

COMMANDMENT #6:
THOU SHALT COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR PSYCHIATRIST IF THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS WITH MEDICATION, OR IF YOU FEEL "OFF BALANCE" IN ANY WAY.

COMMANDMENT #7:
THOU SHALT DEVELOP A "TOOLBOX" FILLED WITH "TOOLS," OR WAYS TO COPE AND MANAGE YOUR ILLNESS.

COMMANDMENT #8:
THOU SHALT EDUCATE YOURSELF ABOUT YOUR ILLNESS.

COMMANDMENT #9:
THOU SHALT TAKE IT ONLY ONE DAY AT A TIME.

COMMANDMENT #10:
THOU SHALT GIVE YOURSELF THE SAME BREAK YOU WOULD GIVE ANYONE ELSE, AND TREAT YOURSELF WITH THE SAME KINDNESS, GENTLENESS, UNDERSTANDING, SUPPORT, AND LOVE.
