Alternative Treatments for Borderline Personality Disorder – Part Three

The wide variety of alternative treatments available that have been reported to help relieve the symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder includes the following: Naturopathy, Aromatherapy, Acupuncture, Music Therapy, Color Therapy, Light Therapy, and Homeopathy. In Part Three of this series, we will finish our series with a discussion on Color Therapy, Light Therapy, and Homeopathy.

NOTE: The treatments described in this article are being reported as supplemental alternative treatments only, and NOT recommended to replace the medications prescribed by your doctor. Always check with your doctor before taking any new and/or supplemental treatments.

Color Therapy:

Color Healing and Chromotherapy are also terms used interchangeably with Color Therapy, which is a set of principles used to create harmonious color and color combinations for healing. This type of therapy is a form of “energy medicine” and is based on the belief that the human body is composed of energy fields. When the energy is properly distributed and circulating freely, the body is healthy. Imbalances, or abnormal amounts of energy, are believed to indicate an excess, or deficiency. According to this belief, color is energy. The energy vibration of that color is what a person needs, in the moment, in order to improve and balance his/her physical and emotional state.

Light Therapy:

Light therapy has been valued throughout history as a remarkable source of healing. Results of the therapeutic application of light indicate that full-spectrum, ultraviolet, colored, and laser light can have therapeutic value for a range of conditions from chronic pain and depression to immune disorders.

The oldest form of light therapy is natural sunlight, which is the ultimate source of full-spectrum light. For those living in areas that see very little sunlight this time of year, there are other options – full-spectrum light therapy, bright light therapy, various forms of UV light therapy, cold laser therapy, syntonic optometry, and visual color therapy.

Homeopathy:

Homeopathy is a medical system which uses tiny doses of natural substances to stimulate a person's immune system and body's natural defenses. Homeopathic remedies are named for the plant or animal ingredients from which they are made. Homeopathy not only offers relief from temporary disorders, but also claims to provide long-term healing of a person due to its individual and "wholistic" approach. For people who believe in “wholistic healing” (homeopathic approach), they believe that this often leads to a complete recovery from their disease. This type of healing makes it easier and possible to avoid recurrence or relapses in the future, because homeopathy stimulates the body's natural defense system by reestablishing normal immune system and cell functioning.
