Selecting a Treatment Program for Borderline Personality Disorder
After being diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, you may want to select a treatment program or facility to help you. If you do, there are many factors to consider in making your decision. When evaluating potential treatment programs or facilities, there are many questions you may want to ask, but you may not even know where to start. In this article you will find several suggested questions that will help you with this. The greatest concern of every patient who has Borderline Personality Disorder and is looking for a treatment program or facility is the cost of treatment. All the suggested questions in this article will not help you if you are unable to afford treatment. Before anything else, call your insurance company or Medicaid/Medicare and ask if they will cover psychiatric treatment and where they suggest you go for help. You may not have a choice, but if you do, you will want to ask the following two questions: 1. How is treatment at your program/facility usually paid for? Along with considerations of the basic issues such as geographic location and payment, you will want to ensure that the treatment facility you are seeking help from has adequate accreditation, and that is staffed with the appropriately trained professionals. You will want professionals who have expertise in Borderline Personality Disorder and issues related to it. Generally, you should make sure first of all that the potential program/facility is accredited by the JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations), and/or that it is licensed by your state's Department of Health and/or Department of Mental Health. You will want to know the answers to the following questions: 1. Where is the treatment program/facility located? Regarding criteria for admission to the treatment program/facility and its evaluation procedures, you may want to ask the following questions: 1. What are the criteria for admission to this treatment program/facility?
As far as your individual treatment is concerned, you may want to know the following: 1. Does this treatment facility see patients on an inpatient or outpatient
basis, or both? One of the biggest concerns of patients with Borderline Personality Disorder who are considering a treatment program/facility is whether the facility has an After Care Program, which many of them do. Some questions you may want to ask about this are: 1. Do you offer after-care services or a long-term treatment program?
